Uganda (X tons) was the main destination for anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) exports from Kenya, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tanzania (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malawi (X tons), with a 3.4% share.

For the sixth year in a row, Kenya recorded growth in overseas purchases of anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap), which increased by 41% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

China (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of anionic surface-active agents (excl. soap) imports to Kenya, together comprising 87% of total imports. These countries were followed by Tanzania, Turkey, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 5.4%.
