In value terms, the United States ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for antisera and other blood fractions exports from Kenya, comprising 93% of total exports. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Swaziland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zambia (+250.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, imports of antisera and other blood fractions into Kenya soared to X tons, picking up by 66% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,073%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, antisera imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 436%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of antisera imports to Kenya, with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Switzerland, the United States, France, Austria, Ireland, Japan and China, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +69.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest antisera suppliers to Kenya were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 33% share of total imports. India, the United States, France, Switzerland, Japan, Ireland, Austria and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
Austria, with a CAGR of +56.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average antisera import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -14.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 169%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+23.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
