Imports into Kenya

In 2021, imports of antisera and other blood fractions into Kenya soared to X tons, picking up by 66% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,073%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, antisera imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 436%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of antisera imports to Kenya, with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Switzerland, the United States, France, Austria, Ireland, Japan and China, which together accounted for a further 27%.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 169%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
