Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brassiere exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 1,052% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Tanzania (X units) were the main destinations of brassiere exports from Kenya, together accounting for 96% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +61.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated exports from Kenya, comprising 76% of total exports. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated, when their volume decreased by -3.3% to X units. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 4,809% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brassiere imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 1,142%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of brassiere to Kenya, with a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa (X units), with a 2.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-2.5% per year) and Hong Kong SAR (-20.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated to Kenya, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 19% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
