Rwanda (X tons), Burundi (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons) were the main destinations of composite paperboard exports from Kenya, with a combined 69% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Burundi (with a CAGR of +760.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Uganda ($X), Rwanda ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) were the largest markets for composite paperboard exported from Kenya worldwide, with a combined 55% share of total exports. South Sudan, Tanzania and Burundi lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Burundi, with a CAGR of +863.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average composite paperboard export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -39.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of composite paper and paperboard imported into Kenya rose notably to X tons, growing by 9% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 722%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, composite paperboard imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 245% against the previous year. China (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of composite paperboard imports to Kenya, together accounting for 64% of total imports.
