In 2021, the amount of electrical capacitors exported from Kenya skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 149% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, capacitor exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tunisia (X kg), Portugal (X kg) and Germany (X kg) were the main destinations of capacitor exports from Kenya, together accounting for 65% of total exports. These countries were followed by Uganda, Tanzania, Thailand, Somalia, the United States and Poland, which together accounted for a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Somalia (with a CAGR of +148.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for electrical capacitors exports from Kenya, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 5.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Tunisia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+20.6% per year) and Germany (+18.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average capacitor export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 55% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 146% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, supplies from abroad of electrical capacitors was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 267% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, capacitor imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed pronounced growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 283% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), China (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of capacitor imports to Kenya, with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Japan, Germany, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and the UK, which together accounted for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +17.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest capacitor suppliers to Kenya were Germany ($X), India ($X) and China ($X), together accounting for 51% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +25.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average capacitor import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
