In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, fuel or lubricating pump imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +23.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 94%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of fuel or lubricating pump to Kenya, accounting for a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, fuel or lubricating pump imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X units), with a 7.3% share.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 66%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
