From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, goat hides and skins exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 420% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for goat hides and skins exports from Kenya, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, goat hides and skins exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Nigeria (X tons), with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India stood at +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+14.8% per year) and Nigeria (-9.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for goat hides and skins exported from Kenya were Uganda ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and India ($X), together accounting for 11% of total exports.
Uganda, with a CAGR of +19.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of goat or kid hides and skins were imported into Kenya; dropping by -31.7% compared with 2020. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 256% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, goat hides and skins imports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. In 2021, Uganda (X tons) constituted the largest goat hides and skins supplier to Kenya, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, goat hides and skins imports from Uganda exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Rwanda (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uganda stood at +45.7%.
In value terms, Uganda ($X) constituted the largest supplier of goat or kid hides and skins to Kenya, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Rwanda ($X), with a 7% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Uganda amounted to +39.0%.

The average goat hides and skins import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced slump.
