The Czech Republic (X tons), South Sudan (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of grape exports from Kenya, with a combined 88% share of total exports. Qatar, Spain and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.7%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +73.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for grape exported from Kenya were South Sudan ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Qatar ($X), together comprising 56% of total exports.

The average grape export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -36.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 98% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+22.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of grapes, when their volume decreased by -8% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 57% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, grape imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest grape supplier to Kenya, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, grape imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), twofold. Lebanon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Africa stood at +12.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+6.3% per year) and Lebanon (+18.2% per year).
In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Lebanon ($X) were the largest grape suppliers to Kenya, with a combined 93% share of total imports. Namibia, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5%.
Tanzania, with a CAGR of +57.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average grape import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 22%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
