Hat And Headgear Market Size in Kenya

In 2022, the Kenyan hat and headgear market increased by 49% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. Hat and headgear consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Tanzania (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main destinations of hat and headgear exports from Kenya, with a combined 58% share of total exports. Rwanda, Zambia, Congo, Somalia, Cote d'Ivoire, South Sudan, Sudan, Canada, Chile and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +148.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average hat and headgear export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -68.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of hats and other headgear was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 258%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hat and headgear imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 273%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X units) was the main supplier of hat and headgear to Kenya, with a 92% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia (X units), with a 2.5% share of total imports.
