The Kenyan fungicide and bactericide market fell rapidly to $X in 2021, waning by -25% against the previous year. In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 68%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Ethiopia (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and Uganda (X tons) were the main destinations of fungicide and bactericide exports from Kenya, together accounting for 89% of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kenya

Fungicide and bactericide imports into Kenya fell rapidly to X tons in 2021, waning by -17.5% against 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of fungicide and bactericide imports to Kenya, with a combined 65% share of total imports. South Africa, Italy, Germany, Thailand, Spain, Israel, Norway, the UK, the United States and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
