In value terms, Nigeria ($X) remains the key foreign market for jute and jute-like fibers exports from Kenya, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Morocco ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Nigeria amounted to +8.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Morocco (+2.2% per year) and Egypt (+13.4% per year).

As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Niger ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of jute and jute-like fibers imported into Kenya declined remarkably to X tons, with a decrease of -22.5% compared with 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 82%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, jute and jute-like fibers imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 224%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Tanzania (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of jute and jute-like fibers imports to Kenya, together comprising 99.9% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +44.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
