Tanzania (X tons) was the main destination for manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports from Kenya, accounting for a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uganda (X kg), fourfold. Ethiopia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.9% share.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +3.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +93.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates to Kenya, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, manganites, manganates, molybdates and tungstates imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India totaled +22.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+1.7% per year) and China (-22.7% per year).
