Mango And Mangosteen Market Size in Kenya

From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the mango and mangosteen harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Kenya
In 2022, the amount of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas exported from Kenya stood at X tons, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -11.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uganda (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Rwanda (X tons) were the main destinations of mango and mangosteen exports from Kenya, with a combined 73% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +68.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the key foreign market for mangoes, mangosteens and guavas exports from Kenya, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 9.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates amounted to -5.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (-6.1% per year) and Oman (+40.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -21.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 69% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
In 2022, mango and mangosteen imports into Kenya fell remarkably to X tons, which is down by -58.9% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 3,543% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 4,830% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Uganda (X tons) was the main supplier of mango and mangosteen to Kenya, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, mango and mangosteen imports from Uganda exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Uganda totaled -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-36.2% per year) and Tanzania (-39.6% per year).
In value terms, India ($X), Uganda ($X) and Tanzania ($X) appeared to be the largest mango and mangosteen suppliers to Kenya, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
Uganda, with a CAGR of +4.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average mango and mangosteen import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 24% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mango and mangosteen import price increased by +68.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while the price for Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+65.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
