Market Size for Meat of Camels and Other Animals in Kenya

The Kenyan market for meat of camels and other animals was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. Camel and other animal meat consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 233%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Sudan (X kg) and Tanzania (X kg) were the main destinations of camel and other animal meat exports from Kenya.

In 2022, purchases abroad of meat of camels and other animals decreased by -32.9% to X kg, falling for the sixth consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 665%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
