In 2021, purchases abroad of natural and modified natural polymers in primary forms increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, natural polymers imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Canada (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of natural polymers imports to Kenya, with a combined 77% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Tanzania, Uganda and India, which together accounted for a further 18%.
