The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 316%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Uganda (X cubic meters), Tanzania (X cubic meters) and Rwanda (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of nitrogen exports from Kenya, together accounting for 92% of total exports. These countries were followed by Burundi, which accounted for a further 4.6%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Burundi (with a CAGR of +37.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for nitrogen exported from Kenya were Uganda ($X), Tanzania ($X) and Rwanda ($X), with a combined 85% share of total exports. Burundi lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 1.1%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Burundi, with a CAGR of +50.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, the amount of nitrogen imported into Kenya soared to X cubic meters, surging by 129% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 181% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, nitrogen imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 181% against the previous year. The United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters), Singapore (X cubic meters) and Belgium (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of nitrogen imports to Kenya, together comprising 99% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +45.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Singapore ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the largest nitrogen suppliers to Kenya, together comprising 97% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
