In 2021, the amount of non-medical x-rays exported from Kenya fell notably to X tons, which is down by -55.5% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 545%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports reduced notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a notable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 540% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Zimbabwe (X kg), Burundi (X kg) and Rwanda (X kg) were the main destinations of non-medical x-ray exports from Kenya, together accounting for 59% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Africa, Somalia and Zambia, which together accounted for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for South Africa (with a CAGR of +47.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X), Somalia ($X) and Burundi ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for non-medical x-ray exported from Kenya worldwide, together accounting for 70% of total exports.

In general, export price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Somalia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+104.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
Non-medical x-ray imports into Kenya soared to X tons in 2021, picking up by 113% against the previous year. In general, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 508% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 644% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest non-medical x-ray supplier to Kenya, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, non-medical x-ray imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), more than tenfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +56.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-6.5% per year) and Italy (-0.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-medical x-rays to Kenya, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 1.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 0.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +54.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-13.9% per year) and Malaysia (-21.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average non-medical x-ray import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -22.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-medical x-ray import price decreased by -34.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 69% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
