The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 608% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Israel (X tons) was the main destination for non-wheat flour exports from Kenya, with a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, non-wheat flour exports to Israel exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Israel amounted to +32.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+4.9% per year) and Rwanda (-17.8% per year).
In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-wheat flours exports from Kenya, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 7.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Israel stood at +30.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+12.7% per year) and Rwanda (-13.8% per year).

In 2021, the average non-wheat flour export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 34% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-wheat flours decreased by -27.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 301%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 244%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Tanzania (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flour to Kenya, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat flour imports from Tanzania exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), more than tenfold. Rwanda (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Tanzania totaled +15.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-7.3% per year) and Rwanda (+25.7% per year).
In value terms, Tanzania ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flours to Kenya, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Rwanda, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Tanzania amounted to +24.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+16.3% per year) and Rwanda (+16.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-wheat flour import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 82%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
