Rwanda (X units), Tanzania (X units) and Ethiopia (X units) were the main destinations of air conditioning machine exports from Kenya, together accounting for 61% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ethiopia (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Rwanda ($X), Ethiopia ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) were the largest markets for air conditioning machine exported from Kenya worldwide, together accounting for 51% of total exports.

Ethiopia, with a CAGR of +105.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average air conditioning machine export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Somalia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ethiopia (+67.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of non-window or wall air conditioning machines increased by 15% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 116%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, air conditioning machine imports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 99%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X units), Italy (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main suppliers of air conditioning machine imports to Kenya, together accounting for 43% of total imports. India, Singapore, Turkey, France, Malaysia, Egypt, Denmark, South Korea, Spain and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-window or wall air conditioning machines to Kenya, comprising 21% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.6% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy totaled +10.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-9.1% per year) and the United States (+4.0% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
