The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 1,302% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

South Sudan (X kg), Tanzania (X kg) and Uganda (X kg) were the main destinations of orthopaedic appliances exports from Kenya, with a combined 88% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tanzania (with a CAGR of +25.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, Tanzania ($X) remains the key foreign market for orthopaedic appliances and splints exports from Kenya, comprising 40% of total exports. In 2022, the amount of orthopaedic appliances and splints imported into Kenya declined to X tons, shrinking by -7.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, orthopaedic appliances imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
