Overall, exports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 450%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, exports of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 293% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Rwanda (X tons), Uganda (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms from Kenya, with a combined 87% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Sudan, South Sudan, Pakistan and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 7.2%.

Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the last nine-year period.
