The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Somalia (X kg) and Seychelles (X kg) were the main destinations of preserved cows meat exports from Kenya, with a combined 78% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Somalia (with a CAGR of +36.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for preserved cows meat exported from Kenya were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Somalia ($X) and Ghana ($X), together comprising 87% of total exports. Seychelles, Rwanda and South Sudan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.7%.

The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports, however, showed a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 324% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, preserved cows meat imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 293% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest preserved cows meat supplier to Kenya, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved cows meat imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), threefold. Egypt (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.

The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Brazil stood at +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+41.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-16.5% per year).

In 2021, the average preserved cows meat import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -25.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible decrease.
