Motor Vehicle Radiator Market Size in Kenya

In 2022, the Kenyan motor vehicle radiator market decreased by -21.6% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, saw a buoyant expansion. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of radiators for motor vehicles, when their volume decreased by -41.6% to X units. Overall, exports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 123%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 221% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Tanzania (X units) was the main destination for motor vehicle radiator exports from Kenya, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, motor vehicle radiator exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ethiopia (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by South Sudan (X units), with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Tanzania stood at +26.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (+55.2% per year) and South Sudan (-15.1% per year).

In value terms, Tanzania ($X) remains the key foreign market for radiators for motor vehicles exports from Kenya, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ethiopia ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Tanzania totaled +20.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (+47.1% per year) and Brazil (+4.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average motor vehicle radiator export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 46% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to South Sudan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kenya

In 2022, purchases abroad of radiators for motor vehicles decreased by -18.8% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 87%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

Japan (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of motor vehicle radiator imports to Kenya, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Thailand and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.3%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +38.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest motor vehicle radiator suppliers to Kenya were Japan ($X), China ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 77% of total imports. Thailand and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.9%.

Brazil, with a CAGR of +31.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average motor vehicle radiator import price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
