Imports into Kenya
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of reaction initiators, reaction accelerators and catalytic preparations decreased by -47.7% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 150%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, reaction initiators and accelerators imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of reaction initiators and accelerators imports to Kenya, together accounting for 51% of total imports. Italy, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan (Chinese), Canada, South Korea, the United States, Singapore, Japan and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +85.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average reaction initiators and accelerators import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 32% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 55%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the price for Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
