There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ethiopia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, the amount of sacks and bags of paper imported into Kenya expanded sharply to X tons, with an increase of 6.7% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 75% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper bag imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +66.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of paper bag to Kenya, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, paper bag imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X tons), with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +16.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (+20.2% per year) and China (-9.2% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sacks and bags of paper to Kenya, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from India totaled +17.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (+20.2% per year) and China (-4.6% per year).

The average paper bag import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
