Sesame Oil Market Size in Kenya

In 2021, the Kenyan sesame oil market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Sesame oil exports from Kenya reduced markedly to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -42.7% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 680% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sesame oil exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 1,017%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 224% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sesame oil imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 181%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Uganda (X tons) was the main sesame oil supplier to Kenya, with a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by China (X kg), with a 1.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uganda amounted to -19.1%.

In value terms, Uganda ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sesame oil to Kenya, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 3% share of total imports.
