In 2021, the Kenyan unwrought silver market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 500%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X kg in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unwrought silver exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 234% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Switzerland (X kg) was the main destination for unwrought silver exports from Kenya, with a 1,408% share of total exports. Moreover, unwrought silver exports to Switzerland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Africa (X kg), more than tenfold.
