Sulphonamides Market Size in Kenya

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 5,024% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Rwanda (X kg), Uganda (X kg) and Burundi (X kg) were the main destinations of sulphonamides exports from Kenya, together comprising 95% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Rwanda (with a CAGR of +43.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Rwanda ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphonamides exports from Kenya, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uganda ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Burundi, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Rwanda totaled +16.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uganda (-29.3% per year) and Burundi (-33.0% per year).

In 2021, sulphonamides imports into Kenya fell dramatically to X tons, waning by -15.4% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 123%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 102%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the main supplier of sulphonamides to Kenya, accounting for a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphonamides imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to +14.6%.

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphonamides to Kenya, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.
