In value terms, talc and steatite exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 326%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Ethiopia (X tons), Uganda (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) were the main destinations of talc and steatite exports from Kenya, together accounting for 82% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ethiopia (with a CAGR of +73.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for talc and steatite exported from Kenya were Ethiopia ($X), Uganda ($X) and Mozambique ($X), together comprising 78% of total exports.

Imports into Kenya
In 2022, the amount of talc and steatite imported into Kenya contracted markedly to X tons, with a decrease of -16.1% on the previous year. Overall, imports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, talc and steatite imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 40%. In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of talc and steatite to Kenya, accounting for a 72% share of total imports. Moreover, talc and steatite imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold.
