In 2021, the amount of video monitors exported from Kenya declined markedly to X units, with a decrease of -20.1% on 2020 figures. In general, exports showed a sharp reduction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, video monitor exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X units), Gambia (X units) and Rwanda (X units) were the main destinations of video monitor exports from Kenya, together comprising 59% of total exports. Hungary, Ethiopia, the Netherlands, Tanzania, the UK, Pakistan, Sweden, the United States and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +97.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and Rwanda ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for video monitor exported from Kenya worldwide, with a combined 69% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the United States, Hungary, Sweden, South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Pakistan and Gambia, which together accounted for a further 24%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Hungary, with a CAGR of +64.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average video monitor export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 83% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a measured expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 106%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Gambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, supplies from abroad of video monitors increased by 36% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 129%. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, video monitor imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 105% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) constituted the largest supplier of video monitor to Kenya, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, video monitor imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), threefold. Russia (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-7.5% per year) and Russia (+97.2% per year).
In value terms, the largest video monitor suppliers to Kenya were the United Arab Emirates ($X), China ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, the UK and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 6.6%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +70.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average video monitor import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, video monitor import price increased by +56.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the price for Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
