The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 1,213% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Uganda (X cubic meters) and Finland (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of wood chips and particles exports from Kenya.

In value terms, Uganda ($X) and Finland ($X) constituted the largest markets for wood chips and particles exported from Kenya worldwide.
Finland, with a CAGR of 0.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review.

In 2022, the average wood chips and particles export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, dropping by -43.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 228%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Finland totaled $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (-15.9%).
Imports of Wood Chips And Particles
Imports into Kenya
In 2022, purchases abroad of wood chips and particles decreased by -11.2% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 150% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 173% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X cubic meters), the United States (X cubic meters) and South Africa (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of wood chips and particles imports to Kenya, together comprising 64% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +1,800.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips and particles to Kenya, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Germany amounted to +34.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+344.7% per year) and the UK (+2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average wood chips and particles import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, shrinking by -12.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wood chips and particles import price decreased by -1.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 37%. The import price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for South Africa ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
