Democratic Republic of the Congo (X cubic meters) was the main destination for exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Kenya, with a 82% share of total exports. Imports into Kenya
In 2021, supplies from abroad of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates increased by 183% to X cubic meters, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 197% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 148% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Indonesia (X cubic meters), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Kenya, with a combined 62% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +44.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Indonesia ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+29.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
