Baryte Market Size in Kuwait

In 2021, the Kuwaiti baryte market decreased by -36.6% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Kuwait

In 2021, exports of barytes from Kuwait soared to X tons, with an increase of 71% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 189%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, baryte exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 107% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) were the main destinations of baryte exports from Kuwait.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +20.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for barytes exports from Kuwait, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 27% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates amounted to +13.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Qatar (-6.6% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-35.8% per year).

In 2021, the average baryte export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 99% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kuwait

In 2021, purchases abroad of barytes decreased by -33.6% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 141% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, baryte imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 147% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

India (X tons), Pakistan (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the main suppliers of baryte imports to Kuwait, together comprising 85% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +36.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Norway ($X) were the largest baryte suppliers to Kuwait, with a combined 85% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Iran and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 9.9%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +27.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average baryte import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
