After three years of growth, the Kuwaiti breathing appliances market decreased by -26% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, posted prominent growth. Breathing appliances consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In 2022, breathing appliances exports from Kuwait shrank markedly to X units, with a decrease of -20.5% compared with the previous year. In general, exports saw a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 1,220% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, breathing appliances exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 2,008%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X units) was the main destination for breathing appliances exports from Kuwait, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, breathing appliances exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), fivefold. The UK (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar amounted to +37.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-8.5% per year) and the UK (-15.9% per year).

In value terms, the UK ($X) remains the key foreign market for breathing appliances and gas masks exports from Kuwait, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Qatar, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the UK stood at +4.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+14.5% per year) and Qatar (+37.1% per year).

In 2022, the average breathing appliances export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 60% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports into Kuwait

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of breathing appliances and gas masks decreased by -21.5% to X units in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 150% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, breathing appliances imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 162%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

The United Arab Emirates (X units), China (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main suppliers of breathing appliances imports to Kuwait, together accounting for 73% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +56.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of breathing appliances and gas masks to Kuwait, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany totaled +41.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+2.1% per year) and the UK (+10.5% per year).
