The Kuwaiti trailer and semi-trailer market dropped sharply to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -40.4% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). After two years of decline, shipments abroad of cargo trailers and semi-trailers increased by 270% to X units in 2022. In general, exports recorded a notable increase. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 480% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Sudan (X units), Bahrain (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) were the main destinations of trailer and semi-trailer exports from Kuwait, together accounting for 71% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +34.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for trailer and semi-trailer exported from Kuwait were Qatar ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 59% share of total exports. Iraq, Sudan, India, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Iran, Jordan and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

Among the main countries of destination, Lebanon, with a CAGR of +38.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average trailer and semi-trailer export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -21.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 178%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kuwait

Trailer and semi-trailer imports into Kuwait dropped markedly to X units in 2022, with a decrease of -36% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 160%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 64%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units) constituted the largest trailer and semi-trailer supplier to Kuwait, with a 31% share of total imports. Moreover, trailer and semi-trailer imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X units), with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates stood at +14.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (-5.4% per year) and the United States (+12.3% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cargo trailers and semi-trailers to Kuwait, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled +13.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Korea (+32.2% per year) and the United States (+13.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average trailer and semi-trailer import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 382% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per unit), while the price for Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
