Cassava Market Size in Kuwait

The Kuwaiti cassava market rose to $X in 2022, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption saw a noticeable decrease. Cassava consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of cassava, when their volume decreased by -1.7% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 136%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cassava imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest cassava supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 85% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 2.4% share of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from India totaled -5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+59.7% per year) and Sri Lanka (-21.9% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cassava to Kuwait, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 4% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India stood at -2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+44.5% per year) and Sri Lanka (-24.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average cassava import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
