In 2021, overseas purchases of cotton-seed oil decreased by -79.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 380% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, cotton-seed oil imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 204%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton-seed oil imports to Kuwait, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, Oman and Spain, which together accounted for a further 23%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +125.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
