For the third year in a row, the Kuwaiti direct dye market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -24.1% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, exports of direct dyes and preparations based thereon from Kuwait soared to X tons, growing by 16% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, direct dye exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, faced a deep downturn. Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the main destinations of direct dye exports from Kuwait, together accounting for 95% of total exports. These countries were followed by Bahrain and Iran, which together accounted for a further 4.6%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +13.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for direct dye exported from Kuwait were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Bahrain ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.

Bahrain, with a CAGR of -13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average direct dye export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -9.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 8.8%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Direct dye imports into Kuwait rose to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 4.4% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports posted a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 535%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, direct dye imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 530% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of direct dye imports to Kuwait, with a combined 73% share of total imports. Italy, India, China, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +46.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest direct dye suppliers to Kuwait, together comprising 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Italy, Egypt, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 35%.
