Baby Food Market Size in Kuwait

In 2021, the Kuwaiti baby food market increased by 9.8% to $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. Baby food consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 88%. Exports from Kuwait

In 2021, baby food exports from Kuwait dropped significantly to X tons, shrinking by -25.1% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 318%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby food exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 291% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tons) was the main destination for baby food exports from Kuwait, with a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, baby food exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bahrain (X tons), twofold. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq stood at +40.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (+26.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+48.3% per year).

In value terms, Bahrain ($X), Iraq ($X) and Qatar ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for baby food exported from Kuwait worldwide, together comprising 94% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Iraq, with a CAGR of +47.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average baby food export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 36%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Kuwait

Baby food imports into Kuwait expanded remarkably to X tons in 2021, growing by 14% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, baby food imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Ireland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the main suppliers of baby food imports to Kuwait, with a combined 38% share of total imports. Switzerland, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, France and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +39.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ireland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of food preparations for infants to Kuwait, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9.7% share.
