Qatar (X tons) was the main destination for glass fibre filament exports from Kuwait, with a 84% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre filament exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X tons), sixfold.

In 2021, purchases abroad of glass fibre filaments decreased by -24% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 286%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, glass fibre filament imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 209% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), China (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fibre filament imports to Kuwait, together accounting for 81% of total imports. Belgium, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +96.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and Bahrain ($X) were the largest glass fibre filament suppliers to Kuwait, together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 17%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
