In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Kuwaiti inactive yeast market, when its value decreased by -12.5% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, posted temperate growth. Inactive yeast consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Iraq (X kg) was the main destination for inactive yeast exports from Kuwait, accounting for a 96% share of total exports. Moreover, inactive yeast exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X kg), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq amounted to -33.5%.

In value terms, the largest markets for inactive yeast exported from Kuwait were Iraq ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Iran ($X), with a combined 68% share of total exports.

Iran, with a CAGR of -18.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average inactive yeast export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 45% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iran (+51.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the amount of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms imported into Kuwait skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 118% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 226%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest inactive yeast supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, inactive yeast imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X tons), with a 13% share.

In 2021, the average inactive yeast import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
