Exports from Kuwait
In 2022, lentil exports from Kuwait expanded notably to X tons, growing by 14% against 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. Iraq (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) were the main destinations of lentil exports from Kuwait, with a combined 85% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Jordan (with a CAGR of +39.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Qatar ($X) remains the key foreign market for lentils exports from Kuwait, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Jordan ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Iraq, with an 18% share.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -17.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 95% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Kuwait
In 2022, the amount of lentils imported into Kuwait surged to X tons, jumping by 18% compared with 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -13.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 68%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lentil imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -11.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 74% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of lentil to Kuwait, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, lentil imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +18.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+0.2% per year) and Myanmar (-4.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest lentil suppliers to Kuwait were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Myanmar ($X), together comprising 96% of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +19.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average lentil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -3.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
