In value terms, commercial refrigeration equipment exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 132% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Qatar (X units), Iraq (X units) and Saudi Arabia (X units) were the main destinations of commercial refrigeration equipment exports from Kuwait, with a combined 73% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +50.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Qatar ($X) remains the key foreign market for refrigerating and freezing equipment and heat pumps (except household type equipment) exports from Kuwait, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Qatar totaled +48.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+9.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-7.0% per year).

The average commercial refrigeration equipment export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -21.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kuwait
In 2021, overseas purchases of refrigerating and freezing equipment and heat pumps (except household type equipment) were finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -24.3% against 2018 indices. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, commercial refrigeration equipment imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest commercial refrigeration equipment supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 30% share of total imports. Moreover, commercial refrigeration equipment imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X units), threefold. Italy (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +13.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-7.7% per year) and Italy (+7.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest commercial refrigeration equipment suppliers to Kuwait, together comprising 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Mexico, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Turkey, India, South Korea, Thailand and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +49.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average commercial refrigeration equipment import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per unit), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
