Non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports from Kuwait skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 57% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 77%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the main destination for non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports from Kuwait, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee exports to the United Arab Emirates exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X tons), sixfold. Qatar (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United Arab Emirates totaled +26.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-4.1% per year) and Qatar (-1.6% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for roasted coffee (not decaffeinated) exports from Kuwait, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Qatar ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +13.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Qatar (+23.7% per year) and Egypt (+0.6% per year).

The average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports into Kuwait

For the fifth year in a row, Kuwait recorded growth in overseas purchases of roasted coffee (not decaffeinated), which increased by 32% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 120%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 92% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) constituted the largest non-decaffeinated roasted coffee supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, non-decaffeinated roasted coffee imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 5.9% share.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Switzerland ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest non-decaffeinated roasted coffee suppliers to Kuwait, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands and Lebanon, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +60.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average non-decaffeinated roasted coffee import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
