Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 447% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 420%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from Kuwait, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Qatar (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia stood at +24.6%.

In value terms, the largest markets for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exported from Kuwait were Qatar ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X).

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 77%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia stood at $X per ton.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates decreased by -29% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 336% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 283%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons), China (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports to Kuwait, with a combined 96% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +20.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to Kuwait, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Iran, with a 6.1% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
