Qatar (X tons) was the main destination for sulphites exports from Kuwait, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphites exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Oman (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar stood at +63.1%.
In value terms, Qatar ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for sulphites exports from Kuwait, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Qatar amounted to +47.2%.
Export Prices by Country
The average sulphites export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -12.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 21% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+22.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kuwait
In 2022, the amount of sulphites imported into Kuwait surged to X tons, rising by 78% on the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 135%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sulphites imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 135% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Bahrain (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphites imports to Kuwait, together comprising 83% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +114.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphites to Kuwait, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahrain ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Thailand amounted to +124.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bahrain (-13.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sulphites import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 11%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the price for Bahrain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
