In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments), when their volume decreased by -73.2% to X units. Overall, exports saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 513% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, video game console exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 302%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Qatar (X units) was the main destination for video game console exports from Kuwait, with a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, video game console exports to Qatar exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Egypt (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X units), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Qatar stood at -4.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Egypt (-35.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-14.3% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for video game console exported from Kuwait were Egypt ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Qatar ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.

Egypt, with a CAGR of -2.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) decreased by -34.8% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 91%. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, video game console imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 161%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

China (X units), the United States (X units) and Vietnam (X units) were the main suppliers of video game console imports to Kuwait, together accounting for 61% of total imports. Japan, the UK, France, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Taiwan (Chinese), Australia and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +67.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), the United States ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest video game console suppliers to Kuwait, with a combined 58% share of total imports. In general, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
