From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wood charcoal exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 143% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of wood charcoal exports from Kuwait, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +14.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (+6.9% per year) and Jordan (+4.7% per year).

Over the period under review, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 431% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wood charcoal imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 350% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Kenya (X tons) constituted the largest wood charcoal supplier to Kuwait, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, wood charcoal imports from Kenya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Paraguay (X tons), with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kenya stood at +38.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+36.0% per year) and Paraguay (+31.5% per year).

In value terms, Kenya ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood charcoal to Kuwait, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Djibouti ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Kenya stood at +42.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Djibouti (+11.5% per year) and Vietnam (+54.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average wood charcoal import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 26% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wood charcoal import price increased by +88.8% against 2014 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Djibouti ($X per ton), while the price for Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
