The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, acetic anhydride exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +107.0% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Mexico (X tons) represented roughly 99.9% of total exports in 2021.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the acetic anhydride exports, with a CAGR of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) also remains the largest acetic anhydride supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In Mexico, acetic anhydride exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Mexico.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Mexico amounted to +2.5% per year.

Acetic Anhydride Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Acetic anhydride imports contracted remarkably to X tons in 2021, waning by -17.9% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, acetic anhydride imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 76% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X tons) took a 9.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (9.9%). Mexico (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of acetic anhydride. At the same time, Argentina (+27.2%) and Colombia (+13.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +27.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mexico (-25.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Argentina (+8.9 p.p.), Brazil (+8.1 p.p.) and Colombia (+7.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mexico saw its share reduced by -25.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported acetic anhydride in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 14% share.

In Brazil, acetic anhydride imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (+31.4% per year) and Colombia (+8.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
