The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, acrylonitrile exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a notable expansion. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Brazil represented the key exporter of acrylonitrile in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 76% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), comprising a 24% share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +4.1% from 2012-2021. In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest acrylonitrile supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of acrylonitrile, when their volume increased by 19% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 203%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, acrylonitrile imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 410%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Peru (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) was the major importer of acrylonitrile in Latin America and the Caribbean, committing 97% of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +1.3%).

The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Peru stood at $X per ton.
